What Does "Discovering" Mean to Me? What Does ‘Discovery’ Mean? I was so happy that the school built the Discovery Center. The first day in class was great. On the second day, Mr. May asked us what discovery means to us. I thought and thought, and then I had it. I think discovery is when you find a clue or a bone. And that is what I think discovery means to me.

What Makes an Effective Professional Arcade Game? I want to figure out how professional arcade games are played. I chose Sphere Runner. David Carachelo is the creator of Sphere Runner. Now I will tell you how to play the game. Move the Sphere Runner rocket with the arrow keys to drive over the spheres on the grid to fill all of them in. If you get blasted you have to restart on that level, and if you get blasted 5 times, you have to go back to level one. Also, I will tell you where you can find the instructions. The rules of the game are right below the game window. I would give this game a 3 out of 4 in difficulty to play. Now I will tell you how you can win the game. You have to fill in all the spheres on the grid. And if you win the level you go to the next level. The materials needed to build this game are a blueprint, spheres, a rocket, and blasters. I think the game would cost $175 to buy, and $150 to make. If you want you play this game go to this URL address:
http://www.freearcade.com/Sphererunner.jav/Sphererunner.htm. Design Brief What is the Concept Design of My Crusie Arcade Game? The name of our Crusie Arcade is Soccer Striker. You have to flick the ball into the net without knocking any of the Army men down that are located on the top side of the game, and you get five tickets if you make a goal without knocking any down. If you knock the Army men down you lose 1 ticket. I think it is a 3 out of 1-4 rating in difficulty. You win the game by flicking the ball in the net. You get Army men or 5 tickets. The directions are found on the front of the game.
It is an orthographic design that shows a specific picture of our game. It shows where most of the Army men are in position. The top of our orthographic design shows the overview of the Army men’s heads. The side shows the Army men standing up. The front side shows the directions and some Army men are shown. You see the nets, too.
To build this game you need cardboard, tape, scissors, Army men, net, and hard work! I think it will take 2-4 weeks to complete. A problem I foresee is the Army men getting knocked down too often.

Praise: Easy to play - all skill levels and exciting.
Question: Are directions on game correct? And do you need a box to shoot from – like a foul line?
Polish: Some “men” may just be placed on game board to make them easier to knock down.
Student Comment: Thanks for playing Soccer Strikers. We tried to make the game so it will not be so easy for the fourth graders and not so hard for the first graders. So we tried to make it fun for everyone. We could make it more complicated, but that would eliminate any one below 2nd grade. No, the directions are not correct; we kept changing our minds. We made a line for the foul line, so people cannot cheat and go close and shoot. We do not want to lose all of our tickets if men are knocked down too easily, and we might run out of prizes.
Examiner: Dr. and Mrs. Puvvala
Date: 2/5/13
Polish: You should modify the game by just allowing them to roll the ball rather than bowling on top of the soldier.
Praise: This is a very intelligent game.
Question: Once the soldiers were knocked down whom do you get to glue them down?
Student Comment: We are happy you played Soccer Striker. We thought that students will think of rolling the ball; we never thought of the students and parents tossing it. We should have made the rules more clear. We got the idea from Messi, a famous soccer player, to build a game about kicking to see if you have as much talent as Messi. He would always score in an amazing way so we wanted to see if the player can make smart decisions like him and get a route through the Army men. Thank you for saying we have an intelligent game. We will ask Mr. May to hot glue the Army men back onto the playing field. That was an excellent question about who puts the Army men back up. Mr. May had that job.
Examiner: Mrs. Porter
Date: 1/29/13
Praise: Game was fun! Liked having practice time.
Question: Do you need two sides open? I think that you should set up boundaries so ball doesn’t go out.
Polish: Unclear how prize system works. Directions about prizes need work. For example one goal earns 5 tickets, hard to understand voki, small sides would be great, also backstop behind goal.
Student Comment: Thanks, we made the game as fun as possible. We did a practice round so players could see how hard the game is. We should make borders like you suggested. That is a great idea to make goal catchers so we do not have to chase the ball. We should make the prize system more clear for people to understand. Ya, my Voki had a deep voice to make it fun. I should give him a lighter voice so it can be understood.

Make It Better How Can We Make the Crusie Arcade Game Better? Reflection on Project
What can we do to improve our Arcade Creation?
To improve our game is to make blockers on the edge of the game so the ball does not go out and we do not have to chase the ball.
And we can put blinking lights on it, and we wanted to make it stand out more.
Specifically, how would we do this?
To make the blockers we will need cardboard and tape and hard work; it will make it faster so people do not have to wait for a long time to play our game.
Reflection on Process
What did you learn to do with the Crusie Arcade Project?
I learned how to make a soccer game out of cardboard without it falling apart.
What do you know now that you didn’t know before doing the Project?
I did not know that you can take one cardboard piece and turn it into a game.
What can you do now that you couldn’t before doing this project?
I know how to make any game I want out of cardboard!
What did you like about the project that helped your learning?
That Mr. May did not help us, and he made us make it without him helping us.
What could have been done differently to help your learning?
I could have learned better with other people, because they probably would have given us more different ideas.
A Final Reflection:
We can always make Soccer Strikers better. We could have put borders and lights so it can stand out. It would have captured people’s attention. We can put pieces of cardboard on the sides and put lights on the top of the game, like the lights you put on your Christmas tree. We would have to tape all of it. I learned how to make a cardboard game without it being really bad, and it did not fall apart. I love soccer so we chose our favorite player, Messi, who plays for Barcelona. We wanted to see if you can choose good shots like Messi. It was hard to get all the materials we needed, but we got them, so we put them on, and I tried it out. I imagined it as a soccer field and the places where players would be. We built our game in a bird’s eye view. It was cool building a game out of cardboard. I felt good about building it with my friend, Ethan. I thought it was going to turn out good. The problem we faced was the tape would not stay on the game. It was hard so I asked Mr. May if we can get new tape, and he said he would try to get new tape, and he did. It helped a lot - the new tape. I felt good about the results. It looked really good. So when it was our day to have the kids come in to play our game, we got a lot of kids playing and lots of kids wanted the flashing bouncy ball. And that is how we made it better. You can do anything if you try. Crusie Arcade Game Presentation - Gaming Week:
